Globalize This!

When I was first assigned with this project, I was very excited, and was very curious to which topic I would get to work on. I was also curious to which group members I will be working with for the whole project. After I heard I was assigned the understanding “ICTs and Digital Opportunities,” I was satisfied, because I am crazy about technology. I thought it will be an easy topic to work on, but I was wrong. After I did some research, I figured out that it wasn’t an easy topic after all. ICTs have a lot of other subtopics under that huge topic, which was very difficult to understand. I also got to know my group members very soon after that. I didn’t really cooperate with my group members that well, because they do not do their fair share of work and we do not communicate properly. One of my group members does not talk that often, and my other group member talks too much. Both of them are females and therefore are very bossy. I always get yelled at for not being on task.
As the project went on, the production of my documentary film was very slow. I did not concentrate on it when the teacher gave us time to do it. I thought that it would be very easy and wouldn’t take as long as the teacher had planned it will take, but I was wrong once again. As I started to work on the flash and film, I realized it will take that long to finish it. The flash was very frustrating, because I couldn’t always get the flash to get the way I want it to work. Ben, a former TIG member taught us the basics about flash, but it was enough for us beginners to start working on. Flash adds a very special effect to our films, and not just boring old pictures popping in and out. My group members have no technology skills at all; therefore they gave me all the computer work. We also had to print brochures and business cards. Our class received a new printer sponsored by Hewlett Packard. I was given the job to install that printer into our iMac in our classroom. I had no experience on iMacs and therefore not certain I would succeed to install the printer properly. But after I played around with it, I managed to install the driver and the printer was able to print.
Near the end point of our project, I began to concentrate and started to work on the film. The flash was still sometimes frustrating, but I managed to finish the flash in satisfying quality. The film itself was also being produced at a fairly well pace. I finally realized that I needed more time than the teacher gave us! I began to rush the film and spend more time on the film and flash. I even worked on it overtime at home! Even though it was due a long time before I was done, I was very lucky. The exporting of the films had some technical difficulties; therefore everybody had one extra week to work on the films. One week was all I needed to finish and polish up the film. After we were all done, we exported our films and were ready for the huge film festival night. The festival night turned out quite satisfying. All our work this year ended up on that night. Our films were shown to many people, they were very amazed at the work we had done.

Documentary Films

I am part of the pilot class for the documentary film we’re doing to express our feelings towards an understanding. So far, our films are close to being finished and we are starting to set up the display booths for the night we show our films. We have been working on our films for at least two 35 minute periods each day. Our group’s film is 3 minutes so far and is the shortest film in the whole class. We are going to add statistics and more information to extend the film and to furthermore express the importance of our topic, ICTs and Digtital Opportunities. We have one more week to finish this huge project, and I doubt we have enough time to make our film the best it can be. After that week, the films will be viewed by students and staff in the school. On May 20th, other people in Toronto will be coming to our school to view the finished projects of the ten groups. I am very excited for that day to come, because everybody will be seeing what we have been doing for the past few months.

Stereotypes

Stereotypes are very strong images in are minds. People assume things that are mostly not true. They have these images in their minds, because other people tell them certain things which are not always true. For example, people always assume doctors earn the most money, when other jobs such as a carpenter can earn twice as much. Stereotypes can mess up a person's mind a lot. Once they have an image in their minds, it is very difficult to change it. Only when they actually meet or experience certain events, their stereotypical mind would change.

TIG Open House!
Sobre este evento: TakingITGlobal Open House

I know this is a little late to write about the open house for TakingITGlobal’s new headquarters, but I will just briefly talk about it. On Wednesday, November 26th, 2003, my teacher, Mrs. McDonald, and my computer teacher, Ms.Roliff gave my friend, Cheryl and I a spectacular opportunity to talk about our relationship with TIG. On that night, after we ate dinner, we arrived at TIG’s new office. There were an unbelievably amount of people. After we introduced and met the TIG staff, we sat in the main room for the presentation the staffs were giving. At about the half point of the presentation, one of the staff called us up to present our speech. At that time, it was a pretty frightening moment, standing in front of about 80 people speaking, but as our speech went on, the stage fright was beginning to wear off. We talked about how we interacted and further enhanced with TIG. We also talked about one of the monthly contests we entered and how two of our classmates’ painting is the runner-up! It was a wonderful experience and the food was great too!
